Movie releases as of this time have been slowed down significantly, but there was a recent release of a giant blockbuster movie called Godzilla vs. Kong. If you are unfamiliar with this movie it is the third movie in the “monster verse” trilogy following the events of Kong Skull Island (2017) and Godzilla King of Monsters (2019). The plot focuses on Kong who is being used by scientists to track down his original home but during the journey, Kong is confronted by the other titan Godzilla. In this review, I will not give any spoilers and I will try my best to give an unbiased opinion to really give you the best explanation about what you should expect when you are about to watch Godzilla vs. Kong.
This movie is the type of movie you watch for the action and special effects which I will get to later in the review, so the actual plot of this movie is overall not that great. When I was viewing this movie I found the storylines about the scientists and overall just the humans, in general, to be confusing and just weak at times. It almost seems like they had at least four different scripts for the human characters and just decided to combine them all to make a confusing mess of a storyline. Normally this would be a very bad sign for a film but this movie is not about humans, it’s about a clash of titans showdown between Godzilla and Kong.
Storylines and plot aside this film is what it’s supposed to be which is a big loud action blockbuster. The CGI and special effects in this film are phenomenal and definitely an upgrade from previous movies. One thing I think they did perfectly with the CGI is that they really captured the sheer size of the titans which is amazing, to say the least. They were also able to give Kong emotions to really make you feel for him which is very unique since there is not a single other movies where I care about the feelings of a 200 foot tall CGI gorilla. The fight scenes are decent but probably not what you would expect going into this movie. I believe this film does its job at being a massive blockbuster and a movie like this does not really need an award-winning plot or storyline because that is just not what people watch this movie to see. If you like big loud action movies and don’t care much for the plot, then this film might be perfect for you.
