During his call with Georgian Secretary of State, Brad Raffensperger, it is heard that Donald J. Trump was sending vague threats, pleads, and begs for the Secretary of State to blatantly and openly add thousands and thousands of ballots in favor of Trump, ballots which never existed.
“I just want to find 11,780 votes, which is one more than we have because we won the state. I only need 11,00o votes. Fellas, I need 11,000 votes,” is what Trump said, and repeating that number of votes that he needed an astonishing 18 times, showing how desperate he has become, but it doesn’t stop there. This call gets crazier and crazier, as not even a minute into the said phone call, Trump says, “We won, we won very substantially, Georgia. We can even see it by rally size, frankly. We’ve been getting twenty-five, thirty thousand people a rally and the competition would be getting a hundred,” indicating he thinks a larger rally means he should have won.
However, that is far from the worst to be said by Trump, as there are plenty of other quotes from the leaked phone call that prove that he is and has been grasping in straws for quite some time.
“That’s a criminal offense, and you can’t let that happen,” says Trump in response to Raffensperger’s refusal to ‘find’ all the Georgian ballots that Trump claims to have been ‘destroyed’, though there is no evidence to back up his claim of destroyed or lost ballots, so he has resorted to threats.
John Fredrick, a high school freshman at San Lorenzo Valley High, thinks about this quote that, “Trump is being childish. He needs to come to realize that such things won’t fly in the political world, especially so late into the election. Watching his desperation makes me cringe,” which seems to be what most people who don’t support or are on the fence about Trump seem to believe, as Annika Jordan, a high school senior here at SLVHS, said, “I thought it was pretty pathetic of him, honestly, and it was even somewhat comical. He kept grasping at anything he could, playing nice, and then throwing threats and such. He gets away with so much more than he ever should,” when asked about how she felt about the leaked phone call.
This phone call created tension and upset, which was more than likely playing a part, small or large, in the Domestic terrorism that followed, when thousands of ignorant trump supporters decided to hold a riot outside and inside the United States Capitol Building, while Congress was in session. These terrorists fired off guns, brought supposed pipe bombs and Molotov cocktails, broke through the building’s windows, stole congressmen and congresswomen’s mail, and trashed their offices.
Trump’s desperation for more votes is riling up his supporters and causing them to do crazy things which he is no doubt in favor of, which is why January 20th cannot come soon enough, as the tension will only continue to rise.
