Video Games to try out While Stuck in Quarantine

Written by Zachary Reaves (Features Writer)

While in quarantine, there’s not much to do other than online school, eat, and sleep so it’s important to find fun things to do in your pastime. One good option is video game, some good choices are indie games. In the past few years, there’s been at least one big one that took the spotlight. The ones from the last three years have been especially good.

The first game today is a small game called Celeste, released in 2019. In this game, you play as a young girl named Madeline, with the goal of scaling a mountain. While climbing the mountain, you come across several colorful locations, such as a ruined city, a haunted hotel, and crumbling ruins. The game is of the platforming genre and can be very challenging. The game also records your amount of fails and the time it takes you to beat each stage. This makes it easy for some people to compete to get the best time, or the least amount of fails. Celeste is available for $19.99 on Playstation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch.

Another fun indie game is Cuphead, released in 2017. This game is made entirely with a 1920s to 1930s art style as well as animated the same way. This game stars the titular character Cuphead and his brother Mugman. The game opens with the brothers straying a bit too far from home and coming upon the Devil’s Casino. Blinded by riches, Cuphead gambles with the devil and loses his soul. Fortunately, he’s able to make a compromise and get freedom by collecting the souls of those who have cheated the devil in the past. The game is essentially a boss rush, with some platforming levels in between. It’s considered an extremely hard “shoot-em-up” game, but it’s also very fun with practice. Cuphead is available for $19.99 on PC, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.

The third and final game is Untitled Goose Game, which was released in 2019. This game is definitely the most surreal out of the three. You play as a goose and cause mischief for the different inhabitants of the game’s world. The game has a very simplistic art style and there isn’t really an overarching goal. Untitled Goose Game is more of a comical game to play off and on, when you have free time and you don’t really feel like putting a lot of effort into a serious or tough game. Untitled Goose Game is available for $14.99 on Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

All in all, there are several great games that you can play for cheap on pretty much every gaming platform out there. Since there’s all the time in the world, why not try them out?
