Joe Biden, who is currently running for president, has had former Senate aide Tara Reade make an allegation of sexual assault against him. Last year she accused him of inappropriate touching. Reade briefly worked as a staff assistant in Biden’s Senate office. This is not the only accusation that Joe Biden has of touching someone inappropriately. Another presidential candidate has been accused of sexual assault. President Donald Trump has multiple allegations of touching people inappropriately. This makes voting between them tricky.
Reade told The New York Times that in 1993, Biden had pinned her against a wall in a Senate building. He reached under her clothing and sexually assaulted her. One of Reade’s friends said that she had told her the details of the allegation at the time. Another friend and a brother of her’s said that she told them over the years about a traumatic sexual incident involving Biden. A spokeswoman for Biden came out and said the allegation was false. In interviews, multiple people who worked in the Senate office with Reade said they did not recall any talk of such an incident or behavior of that nature from Biden toward her or any women. Two office interns who worked directly with Reade said they were unaware of the allegation or any treatment that troubled her. Last year in 2019, Reade and seven other women came forward and accused Biden of kissing, hugging, or touching them in ways that made them uncomfortable. Reade told The New York Times then that Mr. Biden had publicly stroked her neck, wrapped his finger in her hair, and touched her in ways that made her feel uncomfortable.
The seven other women who had complained about Biden told The New York Times this month that they did not have any new information about their experiences to add, however, several have said they believe Reade’s account. I asked a fellow classmate what they thought of the scandal. They said “I believe the women. It’s rare that people lie about sexual assault cases. As for her colleagues who said she did not speak of him doing such a thing, why would she share it with her colleagues or people she doesn’t know well?” When asked what they thought of Biden’s spokesperson denying the incident, they responded with, “Of course he’s going to deny it. No one would willingly speak about how they did something like that. However, I don’t believe it’s the honest truth. Biden is known for being creepy.”
