46 – 43 SLVHS junior varsity girls are looking very good starting their preseason with a win against Watsonville High school, by Tatyana Monroy making her two free throws and putting the team ahead by one point, then by Abby Lahey stealing the ball and passing it to Jadynne Swint with Jadynne doing a lay up with ten seconds left. Unfortunately they lost their next two games, but still gave it their all with 30 – 15 against Santa Cruz High School one of the top schools in the league, and winning 26 – 23 against North Monterey county with making free throws putting them ahead at the last minutes.
SLVHS girls first game was, “ really really intense and competitive ” said Erika Kindred one of SLV’s team captains. with the game being back and forth until the final seconds. “ You couldn’t even hear yourself think it was so loud in the gym with everyone screaming. ” This year the JV team captains are Erika Kindred and Mia Brees. An anonymous player assures us that,“ Abby Lahey is doing good in center, all the starters are doing good and the team captains help for all of us to win “. The team is looking very good so far this season with the three games in the preseason, in practices they are working hard focusing on skills and shooting. They have a goal for the team of at least ten points in each game.
Following the three preseason games they have next week this weekend they have a three day tournament at Watsonville high school, goodluck girls!\
