If they can’t hear you, they can’t hunt you – that is the tagline for the new, upcoming thriller/horror movie, A Quiet Place, out in theatres on April 6th, 2018. Starring Emily Blunt and John Krasinski, who do not only play husband and wife in this film but are also married in reality. A Quiet Place follows a family of five that must fight to survive in an oppressively silent world because of a mysterious entity that hunts by sounds.
The Office (US) star John Krasinski did not only star in this upcoming thriller, but he directed it as well, a vast difference from the comedic style he is known for portraying through his acting. This film is set up to be quite a big success because of the blunt and efficient directing with a natural and steady build-up to the climax.
A Quiet Place is set in a post-apocalyptic world, but with a twist. They do not have the usual troubles of scavenging for food or dealing without electricity. The main story of the film is set a year after the original disaster. The characters who we follow throughout the movie survive not by using power but by using their wits. A Quiet Place is about characters attempting to maintain human connections all while diminishing their place in the world as much as possible, just so they are able to survive.
While following a relatively predictable horror arc in the running time of 90 minutes, the film simmers at being quite foreboding, then suddenly jumping to blunt violence. The script itself has very little dialog and is instead filled with lots of dramatic tension, which makes for the perfect recipe to shock the audience with some well-timed jump scares.
As predicted, A Quiet Place made a quite substantial debut at the box office, opening at $50 million in ticket sales, becoming the second-best opening weekend, right after Black Panther. The reviews of this PG-13 horror film have so far been overwhelmingly positive, such as the 97% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. A Quiet Place is the biggest Paramount opening since Star Trek Beyond which came out in the summer of 2016.
In conclusion, A Quiet Place is a unique horror movie, where sounds can get you killed, and silence is life saving. Receiving great reviews from horror fans and critics alike, if you are interested in horror/ thriller movies, or perhaps just interested in seeing this film, it is highly recommended that you do. Just remember, if they can’t hear you, they can’t hunt you.
