The SLV girl’s Junior Varsity basketball team played the St. Francis Sharks Friday, January 6. The girls started fighting early and never looked back. Multiple connections between Freshman Abbie Monroy and Hailey Lang along with multiple steals by Kayla Brumbaugh that also lead to multiple layups helped the Cougars stay in the

game at the end of the half with a close score. With Cougars scoring all around and strong defensive efforts by everyone, the Cougars finished the game winning by three. “I think my team played really well,” Gregory said. “We played together had really good defensive and offensive sides, but defense wins games.”
Gregory said that the key to her team’s success is staying calm and focused in the end. They are all friends off the court, and it shows on the court. “It was a team effort,” Gregory said. “We had three players that stood out, but in the end, it was a team effort.” This win was a big boost for the team, and Gregory believes this win will give them confidence moving forward in the season.
