The phone called the “best phone yet” is, in reality, one of the biggest fails a smartphone company has ever created. The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 has gone up in flames (literally).
The Note 7 was released on August 19, 2016 and were originally very sought after and anticipated. However, soon after the release, the phones started to catch fire due to a battery issue, as reported by Samsung. A recall of the phone came on September 2nd, and has left Samsung in a “disastrous situation.”
Previous to the recall, critics were calling the Note 7 the best phone yet and the Note 7 had the iPhone 7 beat. These two phones are actually quite similar. They both have a fingerprint scanner, they are both close in weight with the iPhone at 188 grams and the Note 7 at 169 grams, and they both have aluminum and glass builds.
Instead of the expected gain of revenue from the release of the new phone, Samsung lost nearly 10 billion dollars, and also wiped 17 billion dollars off of the Samsung market value. The Note 7 was a huge hit on Samsung’s reputation as well, as many now believe that none of the company’s phones are safe whatsoever.
Samsung completely halted all production of the Note 7 as of October 10th and they have reached out to all owners of the Galaxy Note 7, for either a full refund or a new phone of another kind.
