San Lorenzo Valley High School’s Boys Tennis team is gearing up for a great start to the 2016 season. Their goal is to take the top spot in the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League and the SCCAL Tournament.

The SLVHS tennis team definitely has a bright season ahead of them, having finished second last year. The 2016 season will be getting off to a quick start for the Cougars, as they will be playing their first two matches against two of the top 2015 teams.

Their first match will be played against rival Scotts Valley, who they tied with in the 2015 season and soon after, they’ll be playing a match against Santa Cruz High, last year’s first place team.

The team is very relaxed about the upcoming season and is having a lot of fun while on the court and that gives the Cougars a big advantage when they play. The Cougars have amazing chemistry as a team and are close friends on and off the court.

This team is working hard to improve on their own and together with help from their coach, Wayne Sandles. “I plan to improve my backhand and ground strokes this year,” says senior Robert Adams confidently.

Coach Sandles is seen as a great coach by all of the players of the team. He has taught the team a lot in his time at the high school and plans on teaching them much more; Sandles wants to coach his team to the top spot in the 2016 SCCAL tournament.

With great skill and a great coach, the squad can absolutely achieve their 2016 personal and team goals if they keep practicing as hard as they have been.
