Michaela Sanchez, 18, is a senior at San Lorenzo Valley High School. Vice President of one of only two honors clubs offered at SLVHS, the California Scholarship Federation, and a member of the Queer-Straight Alliance and Knitting clubs Michaela hopes to study Biology in college. A lover of science, her favorite high school class was AP Environmental Science with Ms. Orbuch. However, the class that she would say has most prepared her for college is AP Engligh and Composition taught by Ms. Darrough.
When asked about Michaela, her friend and fellow senior Katrina Luque described her as: “The most hard-working and thoughtful person I know. The best part of Michaela is that she really cares about her friends and she has the greatest sense of humor. ” An avid athlete, she has run seven seasons of Cross-Country and Track combined. She enjoys running because it is relaxing and gives her a sense of freedom. Her hobbies include reading, writing, baking and knitting. Her favorite book is Tuesdays with Morrie, a memoir by American author Mitch Albom and her movie of choice is the 2005 DreamWorks Animation Madagascar. She enjoys sleeping in on the weekends with her two cats. Michaela works at roaring camp and the thing she is going to miss the most about Santa Cruz is the general weirdness we all know and love.
Her personal strengths include a lack of procrastination and her advice to underclassmen would be “to set goals and know how to achieve them.” The person she looks up to most in her life is her mother and she considers her family to be very supportive. Michaela’s summer plans include working and sleeping in while she still can before college. Although she hasn’t picked a college yet, Michaela Sanchez is heading towards a bright future after graduation.
