Valentines day: a day filled with love, hearts, and deceitful congressmen? This February 14th, Netflix released all thirteen episodes of the second season of House of Cards, an original Netflix production starring Kevin Spacey, Robin Wright, and Corey Stacy.
The show, nominated for Best Drama Series during the 2013 Golden globes, is about congressmen Francis Underwood, Kevin Spacey, working with his equally ambitious wife, Robin Wright, to exact revenge on those who betray him during his climb to power. Ninety seven percent of viewers liked the show, giving it an 8.2 out of 10 stars. The first season of House of Cards was full of deception and betrayal and the second season follows closely in its tracks, leaving its loyal viewers feeling fulfilled. It’s considered to be even darker than the first, as congressman Underwood and his wife continue on their ruthless rise to power. The second season is also adding in a touch of feminism, telling rich stories of various women.

Sam Van Pykeren, a senior here at SLVHS, states enthusiastically, “It’s definitely in my top five favorite television shows. It’s filled with twists and will leave you feeling very satisfied.” He then adds, “I would recommend it to all who enjoy dark drama’s.” Another student adds, “Its definitely not for the faint of heart; however, the show is really well done. I highly recommend it.”
