SLV’s Girls Volleyball is looking very good this year. With both Varsity and JV entering with a pre-season win against Pajaro Valley, scoring 3-1 and respectively, they are off to a good start.
Girl’s Varsity, coached by Andrea Trader, is going through extensive preparation, setting weekly team and personal goals to outline a path to victory. Senior McKenna Maness has stated that an obstacle facing the team this year will be working together, as each player is, “individually talented, but it is combining those skills that will be the hard part.” Naming Santa Cruz and Soquel High as upcoming challenges, McKenna said that she has faith in the returning seniors, Brittany Black, Samantha Oesterle, and Nina Lavelle, and that the team will be keeping up its enthusiasm and will work hard to win as many games as possible this season.
The Junior Varsity team spent the weekend of the 13th down in Fresno for a JV tournament. The tournament served as good practice, and a good bonding experience, before league games, starting the following Tuesday. April Beltz, Coach of the JV team, commended the ten sophomores on the team, stating that with the help of key returners Anna Morris and Lily Maness, they are, “looking for league championship this year. Last year we tied for first, and this year we want to win it outright.” Coach Beltz went on to encourage everyone to come watch the games on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5:15 pm.
